What to Expect from LifeChangers-
Mentally- You will be challenged to think outside of the box concerning personal life as well your ministry. You will read books during the summer to stimulate your mind on topics that will prove themselves thematic. Your experiences will force you to deeply reflect on your current perspectives on life, God, and ministry possibly making changes where you see necessary. You will have to learn to value what’s best for your team mates and ministry, putting others before yourself. You will have to use your critical thinking skills as you evaluate everything that you read, hear, and see over the summer.
Spiritually- You will be taken out of your comfort zone. You will see some characteristics of God that you may have never seen or thought about before. You must be prepared to spend time with Him on a daily basis in prayer, reading, and fellowship. You will ask yourself and God many difficult questions. You will be expected to put what you know to the test. You will grow and be stretched.
Physically- You will learn what it is like to live like those that you will serve this summer. You will forfeit your personal space and privacy as you will be living in community with 6 other house mates. You will be pushed to learn soccer in a small amount of time and then be challenged to put those skills to use at a Soccer-N-Spirit Camp. You will learn to appreciate simplicity. You will give up television, computers, and other electronic devices. You may have to put some relationships on hold in order to be able to focus on what God will put before you this summer. You will eat things that may or may not be your favorite foods. You will become familiar with unique smells.
Emotionally- You will be stretched to points you never thought possible. You will fall in love with people, places, and things you never imagined loving before. You will hurt as you see the tremendous needs of those you encounter. You will cry as you learn what true social injustice is all about. Your heart will break as you learn how little we (as a whole) are doing to be a light in this dark city. You will learn to forbear each others personalities and temperaments. You will either really love your new home or really miss your old home, sometimes both.
Don’t let these things scare you and keep you from applying. They are here to give you a better picture of what to expect from being a LifeChanger. Each change and experience is valuable. Are you ready to know all of the things that God wants to teach you this summer?
“And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men.” Luke 2:52
